The village of Wakkerstroom has developed significantly because of the rapidly growing interest in birds from both local visitors and international visitors. Birding; with the fact that Wakkerstroom, is one of the best places to see the grassland biome specials, makes it an international destination for interest groups and fanatics. Found in the area are Rudd’s Lark, Botha’s Lark, Yellow Breasted Pipit, Blue Korhaan and Southern Bald Ibis all settled in one of the worlds recognised wetland areas. Wakkerstroom boasts a multitude of accommodation. Come and visit and explore for yourselves.
All 5 of the South African species of the Harrier visit Wakkerstroom at certain times of the year.
